Colon Cleansing Diet - Foods to Eat & Foods To Avoid For Optimum Digestive Health

A colon cleansing diet is one that optimizes bowel movements that occur each day. This means each meal has sufficient fiber that makes the colon happy.

For women, the recommended amount of fiber is 25 grams per day or more. For men, the recommended amount of fiber is 35 grams per day.

Colon Cleansing Diet - Dos and Don'ts

Dos

  1. Increase your fiber slowly. If your diet only contains 10 grams or less of fiber each day, increase by 5 grams a day until you get to 25 to 35 grams daily. Then maintain the high amount.
  2. Eat your spinach - especially steamed spinach. Spinach is not particularly high in fiber, yet it contains phytonutrients that have a laxative effect. Therefore, it’s a good idea to include it as you get more for your money, so to speak. Be sure to consume most of your spinach cooked, because this green has an especially high oxalate content. Oxalates can increase risk of kidney stones. Cooking breaks the oxalates down so they're not a problem. There are a number of delicious ways to cook spinach and steaming it is a healthy way to preserve the healthful nutrients.
  3. Consume kelp if you can. Kelp is not particularly high in fiber, yet it also contains phytonutrients that will bulk up the stool. You can take kelp tablets daily.
  4. Keep a record of your fiber intake when you first start changing your diet. You’ll learn a lot about how your body feels when it has different amounts of fiber.
  5. Take a colon cleanse supplement. At the same time you start a colon cleanse diet consider taking a quality colon cleanse supplement like ColonClean. The herbs in ColonClean can help to kick start your cleanse and help to flush out excess waste and toxins over 2-6 weeks.
  6. Consider doing colonic hydrotherapy. Or do the enemas yourself. These will kick-start your colon and directly wash out waste.
  7. If you’re able to drink coffee, it may help you move your bowels. However, make sure you get the type of coffee that does not contain mycotoxins (high in mold). So far, there’s only one brand on the market that does not contain mycotoxins – and that is Bulletproof, and organic coffee is NOT good enough.
  8. Consider a parasite cleanse. If you show any signs of parasites, add a parasite cleanse like ParasiteClear to your diet regime. Parasites can suck your body of nutrients and need to be flushed out for optimum digestive health. Works well with ColonClean.
  9. Take probiotics during your colon cleanse diet. In one medical study performed at the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico, animals given probiotics before damage was induced to the colon to cause inflammation had significantly less damage in all areas of the colon on the microscopic and macroscopic level.

Key Point

For women, the recommended amount of fiber is 25 grams per day or more. For men, the recommended amount of fiber is 35 grams per day.

Don'ts

  1. Don’t eat a high meat diet without balancing it with vegetables, nuts and high fiber foods.
  2. Don’t eat sushi since it can contain parasite eggs.
  3. Don’t eat a high dairy product diet without balancing it with vegetables, nuts, and high fiber foods.
  4. Don’t eat sugar, since sugar causes inflammation in the colon.
  5. Don’t take psyllium supplements, as they can cause intestinal blockage. The problem is that they swell and bring in water from the digested food that is passing through your colon, getting the stool “stuck”.
  6. Don’t sweat it if you have an occasional chocolate dessert (containing sugar) or other sweet. It’s the regular consumption, more than once a week, that is bad.

Colon Cleansing Diet Research

In one study at a New York Hospital, 92 nursing home residents older than 65-years old who were given chronic laxatives (docusate, milk of magnesia with cascara, psyllium) were given Fiber 7, a natural fiber containing 7 grams fiber at two meals a day. The goal was to see how many residents could eliminate the use of the laxatives with the diet changes.

The laxatives were successfully discontinued in 63 of the 92 residents. The nursing home saved $220.00 per month by not having to give them the laxatives. And it was a safe and convenient way to improve bowel function.

In another study, this one in the United Kingdom, researchers found that prunes were superior to psyllium in their ability to improve stool frequency and consistency.

Certain ingredients used in effective herbal cleansing supplements have been validated by research to work. Senna leaf, aloe vera, licorice root, psyllium husk and others have demonstrated laxative, anti-inflammatory, intestinal wall-healing, and/or liver cleansing properties1,2,3,4.

Should You Take Herbal Cleanse?

For some people, eating healthy and increasing fiber intake is not enough to get the colon to move waste out. Many factors, including imbalanced gut bacteria levels, an under-active thyroid, depression, and digestive inflammation can lead to constipation.

Increase your fiber slowly. If your diet only contains 10 grams or less of fiber each day, increase by 5 grams a day until you get to 25 to 35 grams daily. Then maintain the high amount.

And everybody can benefit from the cleanse-accelerating actions of herbal colon cleanses. A well-formulated herbal cleanse can improve the health of your colon and your whole body in a variety of ways. By moving toxins out of your gut more quickly, you are helping your whole body detox.

Toxins are constantly being dumped into our digestive system and if you accelerate their movement out, you are preventing the toxins from damaging your intestinal walls and microflora or being re-absorbed into circulation and harming the health of the rest of your body.

How to Cleanse Properly

Your colon is always the first organs you should cleanse. If you cleanse parasites and your liver before your colon and your colon is backed up, you can begin to feel worse. You feel tired and like you are coming down with a cold or flu. You may experience skin breakouts or even headaches.

There’s not an open route for the toxins to get out. Thus, the parasitic toxins in the liver have no way to leave the body except through the skin.
