Modern life has been an assault on our digestive systems. One of the consequences of our toxic lifestyle habits is the overgrowth of candida yeast in our intestines. Overconsumption of sugar and refined grains, chronic stress, overuse of antibiotics and other drugs, as well as toxic substances like heavy metals in our food all contribute to the overgrowth of candida.
This nasty yeast is connected to all sorts of symptoms that range from gastrointestinal distress to whole-body fatigue pain.
Candida compromises the integrity and health of your gut and can even affect your immune system. When candida overgrows, it excretes dozens of toxins into your system and also makes your gut barrier more porous so that particles can leak out into your bloodstream, triggering immune reactions and an overactive autoimmune-inducing immune system.
The Anti-Candida Diet
Changing your diet is a great way to fight candida. Let’s look at the steps you can take to fight candida-caused autoimmunity.
1. Stop eating sugar and processed grains.
Dense, fast-release sugars like that in soft drinks, candy, pizza, pasta, or white bread feeds candida with a vengeance.
2. Remove toxic chemicals from your diet.
There is evidence that toxic substances like the heavy metal mercury can help protect candida from death 1. Avoid large fish like halibut and tuna and stick to tiny fish like sardines and anchovies to greatly reduce heavy metal exposure.
3. Eat plenty of antioxidant-rich foods.
The toxins that candida excretes into your body increase oxidative stress in your body. Dietary antioxidants can help fight this destructive process. Vegetables, nuts, and low-sugar fruit like berries lend you lots of antioxidants.

4. Eat healthy fats.
Since you won’t be eating a lot of carbs on an anti-candida diet, you can fill that space with healthy fats like those in olive oil, fish, seeds, avocado, and others. Compounds in coconut kill candida so add some coconut oil to your diet.
5. Temporary reduce oxalates in your diet.
Oxalates are natural compounds in food - even in healthy whole plant foods. Unfortunately, if your gut is leaking too many compounds into your blood because of candida overgrowth, oxalates can trigger autoimmune-causing inflammation throughout your body. So avoid beets, sweet potato, spinach, chard, brown rice, soy, nuts and chocolate while on the diet.
6. Take an anti-candida herbal supplement.
There are tons of herbs and natural compounds that can kill bacteria, viruses, and yeast like candida in your gut.
